Senior Citizen OutreachONE-TO-ONE VISITSThe staff, parish members, and volunteers of Historic Trinity become "special friends" to individual senior citizens, listening to them, helping them write letters, and reading to them. CHILDREN TO SENIORSThe young children of the parish Sunday School each adopt a shut-in senior citizen as a friend. They write notes to the seniors and send cards to them on special occasions. OUTINGSPeriodically bus trips are planned for the senior citizens to provide them with the opportunity to enjoy the "outside world." They relish a trip to Belle Isle, to the Zoo, or just to play miniature golf. PARISH SENIORSThe senior citizens of the parish meet monthly for a free lunch, fun and fellowship. They assume a personal responsibility for each other, and at the same time reach out in love and concern to the senior citizens of downtown Detroit. HEALTH PROGRAMSVarious programs are held each year to assist the senior citizens of the community to better meet their health needs. A Health-O-Rama, in conjunction with local health organizations, is held annually at Historic Trinity. SENIORS DAYMonthly the senior citizens of the downtown Senior Hi-Rise Buildings gather at Historic Trinity for a free lunch and fellowship. This interchange between seniors from different buildings has become a most valuable addition to the quality of their lives. SEMINARSEach year Historic Trinity Inc. Senior Outreach Sub-Committee hosts a seminar for senior citizens of the community. Outstanding lectures speak to the seniors on various topics that meet their immediate needs. Health and personal security demonstrations assist the seniors in becoming more self sufficient. CHRISTMAS PARTYEach Christmas the senior citizens of the parish hold a Christmas Party for the senior citizens of downtown Detroit. A fine lunch is furnished, followed by the singing of Christmas Carols, and the distribution of gifts for the seniors. Enjoy the 2011 Community Seniors Christmas Celebration in pictures. LUTHERAN SENIOR TRAVELERSFour times a year a bus tour to an outstanding location is planned for the senior citizens of the community. The seniors appreciate these opportunities to explore the world beyond the boundaries of their environment. A FRIENDLoneliness is a great part of a senior citizens life who has been separated from the daily contact of their loved ones. The Senior Outreach programs of Historic Trinity enable these seniors to just reach out as friends to each other, or just to talk to and touch another human being! FUNDINGThe Senior Citizen Outreach program of Historic Trinity Inc. is funded by gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, and foundations. SENIOR CITIZEN OUTREACHThe Senior Citizen Outreach program of Historic Trinity Inc. strives to meet the emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of Senior Citizens in downtown Detroit. The staff and volunteers work to provide services that will enhance the quality of the lives of senior residents. Senior citizens who move into the many Senior Hi-Rise Buildings often shut themselves in their small apartments, leaving their secure environment only for the absolute necessities. In many ways these senior citizens have put themselves in "storage" in these Hi-Rise "warehouses". The staff, parish members and volunteers of Historic Trinity reach out with love and concern through a variety of programs to activate and motivate these senior citizens. SENIORS COMMITTEEThe Historic Trinity Inc sub-committee for Senior Outreach meets quarterly to evaluate current programs and plan new ways of meeting the needs of senior citizens of the community.
