Worship at the Cathedral
We are blessed to host worship services each Sunday, during the week, and on special occasions at Historic Trinity.
Sunday Morning Worship
Holy Communion is celebrated the 1st Sunday of the month at 11 a.m., 2nd Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m., 3rd Sunday of the month at 8:15 a.m., and the 4th Sunday of the month at 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Communion is celebrated at every service on Festival Sundays (Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost, Trinity, Reformation). There is no communion on the fifth Sunday.
8:15 a.m. Early Morning Worship Service
Traditional worship using liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. The Order of Matins is used the first Sunday of the Month. Holy Communion is the 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month.
9:30 a.m. Family Worship Service
Traditional worship using liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. Holy Communion is celebrated the 2nd and the 4th Sundays of the month. There is music by the Cathedral Choir or guest musicians on alternate Sundays.
Sunday School and Adult Bible Class also meet during this time period. Bible class is led by one of the Cathedral Pastors.
11:00 a.m. Traditional Lutheran Worship Service
Traditional worship using liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. Holy communion is celebrated the 1st and 4th Sundays. There is music by the Cathedral Choir or guest musicians on alternate Sundays. Special seminars and Adult Information Classes may also meet during this hour.
Special Cathedral Services
Retire the Alleluia Banner. This ancient tradition is observed in all services Transfiguration Sunday, the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday and Downtown Lutheran Lenten Series. Lenten services begin on Ash Wednesday at noon at Historic Trinity and extends through Holy Week.
Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. Historic Trinity is noted for the beautiful “Procession of Palms” at all three worship services.
Holy Week Services begin after Palm Sunday. Maundy Thursday is April 14, 2022 at 7pm. Good Friday’s Tre-Ore Services start at 12pm, 12:45pm and 1:30pm. Good Friday’s Tenebrae service starts at 7pm.
Easter Sunday is a time of joy and wonder at Historic Trinity. Join us at 7:30am, 9am or 11am on Easter Morn- April 17, 2022.
Mother’s Day is observed each year. On Mother’s Day a harpist beautifies the services each year on this day.
Memorial Sunday commemorates Memorial Day.
Pentecost is observed fifty days after Easter.
Father’s Day is observed the third Sunday of June each year. This service honors the family unit.
The Freedom Festival is the last Sunday in June and celebrates the freedom of the United States and Canada. Bagpipers are part of the service where the national anthems of both countries are sung. It is a very joyous, patriotic day. [Note: Freedom Festival 2021 will be celebrated in September]
Independence Sunday commemorates the birthday of the United States of America.
Blessing of the Pets is observed at the 11am worship service on a Sunday in October. Pets and their owners are announced by name. Each receives a blessing and a St. Francis of Assisi emblem.
Reformation services take place the Sunday closest to Reformation Day, during all worship services. Be proud of our Lutheran heritage and participate in these inspiring services.
All Saints Day services take place on the first Sunday in November, during all worship services. This is a service of the commemoration of the faithful departed. Names of those saints who have gone to be with the Lord the previous year are read, as a bell is chimed in their memory.
Thanksgiving Services are held at 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve. Members fill baskets with food to be donated to families of children in a neighboring school.
Downtown Lutheran Advent Services are at noon and 6:30pm each Wednesday during Advent. There is a guest preacher and choir at each service.
Advent by Candlelight takes place each year. The service is conducted by women of Historic Trinity and is preceded by a Festival of Desserts in the Huegli Auditorium.
German Language Christmas Service takes place each Advent. A German choir sings; and the liturgy, readings, and sermon are all in German.
Christmas Eve is not complete without attending a service at Historic Trinity. This year there will be one service on December 23 at 7pm and four services on December 24: the Family Service at 5:00 p.m., Candlelight Service with Communion and special music at 7:00 p.m. and two Festival Candlelight Services at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. with the Cathedral Choir and Today’s Brass ensemble.
Christmas Day Sunday Service takes place December 25th at 10:00 a.m.
New Year’s Eve Festival Communion Service at 7:00 p.m. This is one of the most popular services of the entire year. End the Year at this beautiful worship service.
