Worship at the Cathedral

We are blessed to host worship services each Sunday, during the week, and on special occasions at Historic Trinity.

Sunday Morning Worship

Holy Communion is celebrated the 1st Sunday of the month at 10:30 a.m., 2nd Sunday of the month at 9:00 a.m., 3rd Sunday of the month at 10:30 a.m., and the 4th Sunday of the month at 9:00 a.m. Communion is celebrated at every service on Festival Sundays (Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost, Trinity, Reformation). There is no communion on the fifth Sunday.

9:00 a.m. Traditional Lutheran Worship Service

Traditional worship using liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. Holy Communion is celebrated the 2nd and the 4th Sundays of the month. There is music by the Cathedral Choir or guest musicians on alternate Sundays.

Sunday School and Adult Bible Class also meet during this time period. Bible class is led by one of the Cathedral Pastors.

10:30 a.m. Traditional Lutheran Worship Service

Traditional worship using liturgy from The Lutheran Service Book. Holy communion is celebrated the 1st and 4th Sundays. There is music by the Cathedral Choir or guest musicians on alternate Sundays. Special seminars and Adult Information Classes may also meet during this hour.

Blessing of the Pets

Blessing of the Pets is observed in October. Pets and their owners are announced by name. Each receives a blessing and a St. Francis of Assisi emblem.

Reformation Services

Reformation services take place the Sunday closest to Reformation Day, during all worship services. Be proud of our Lutheran heritage and participate in these inspiring services.

All Saints Day

All Saints Day services take place on the first Sunday in November, during all worship services. This is a service of the commemoration of the faithful departed. Names of those saints who have gone to be with the Lord the previous year are read, as a bell is chimed in their memory.

Thanksgiving Service

Thanksgiving Service is held at 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve.

Downtown Lutheran Advent Services

Downtown Lutheran Advent Services are at 12pm and 6:30pm each Wednesday during Advent. Dates in 2022 are Nov. 30, Dec. 7, and Dec. 14. There is a guest preacher and choir at each service.

Advent By Candlelight

Advent by Candlelight takes place each year. This year’s date is November 17, 2022. The service is conducted by women of Historic Trinity and is preceded by a Festival of Desserts in the Huegli Auditorium.

German Language Service

A German Language Christmas Service takes place each Advent. This year’s event is December 11, 2022 at 4 p.m. A German choir sings; and the liturgy, readings, and sermon are all in German.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is not complete without attending a service at Historic Trinity. This year there will be one Festival Candlelight service on December 23 at 7pm and three services on December 24: the Family Service at 6:00 p.m., Candlelight Service with Communion and special music at 8:00 p.m. and a Festival Candlelight Services with Communion at 10:00 p.m. with the Cathedral Choir.

Christmas Day Service

December 25th at 10:00 am with Communion.

New Year’s Eve Festival Communion Service

New Year’s Eve Festival Communion Service takes place on December 31st at 7:00 p.m. This is one of the most popular services of the entire year. End the Year at this beautiful worship service.

Retire the Alleluia Banner

This ancient tradition is observed in all services Transfiguration Sunday, the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday and Downtown Lutheran Lenten Series.

Lenten services begin on Ash Wednesday February 22, 2023 at Historic Trinity and extend through Holy Week.  Ash Wednesday will be honored with Communion worship at 12pm and 7pm, each with the imposition of ashes following the service.  We continue to offer midweek services at 12pm for each of the following Wednesdays (March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22, March 29) in Lent.

Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week.

Palm Sunday, April 2nd, 2023. Historic Trinity is noted for the beautiful “Procession of Palms” at all worship services, 9:00 and 10:30 am.

Holy Week Services

Maundy Thursday- April 6, 2023 at 7pm.  Good Friday’s Tre-Ore Services start at 12pm, 12:45pm and 1:30pm.  Good Friday’s Tenebrae service starts at 7pm.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is a time of joy and wonder at Historic Trinity.  Join us at 7:30am, 9am or 10:30 am on Easter Morn- April 9, 2023.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is observed each year. On Mother’s Day a harpist beautifies the services each year on this day.

Memorial Day

Memorial Sunday commemorates Memorial Day.

Pentecost

Pentecost is observed fifty days after Easter.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day is observed the third Sunday of June each year. This service honors the family unit.

Freedom Festival

The Freedom Festival is the last Sunday in June and celebrates the freedom of the United States and Canada. Bagpipers are part of the service where the national anthems of both countries are sung. It is a very joyous, patriotic day.

Independence Day

Independence Sunday commemorates the birthday of the United States of America.
